Lazy eh???

Well, yes actually I have been quite lazy. I didn't study for my Spanish quiz until this morning, a bit before I took it, I didn't write my paper for my Student Success Seminar class until this morning, again, last minute. But as Joe said so eloquently, "old habits die hard." I am changing that however.

This weekend was rather uneventful, went to work Friday night, nothing exciting. Saturday I donated my time with the group I just joined, the College Republicans. I attended the International Festival and Parade in lovely downtown Eau Claire. Walked along side our local Republican candidate running for congress, Dale Schultz, running against Ron Kind. Handed out many a sticker to eager children, and some even more eager adults. Although, there was one guy.... (sounds like a story coming on doesn't it?) Well, here it comes...

So here we are, Evan, the head of the UWEC College Republicans, Ben, treasurer, and me, standing by the Bush/Cheney booth set up for the festival downtown. This guy walks by us and says something like, "Look at these guys (referring to us) they're too dumb to realize they're wrong." And then Evan told him that we were proud to wear the stickers and back our candidate. Then Evan turned around to walk back toward the booth and the guy spit at him, I couldn't believe it, this guy was probably in his later 50's, and he actually spit at him for using his first amendment rights. Then he says "hey" to get our attention, as we had decided to ignore him, for good reason. So, we once again acknowledged his existence, and he said the craziest thing that I never would've thought he was going to say. He said, "You're lucky because the law's on your side!" As if he were going to actually get violent if it were legal. How rude. The rest of the parade went on just fine, the kids were funny, covered from head to toe in stickers ranging from Kerry/Edwards to Bush/Cheney and even more, Dale Schultz, Tim Michels, Ron Kind, Russ Feingold, all kinds of them, we kept covering up the Kerry/Edwards stickers with the Bush/Cheney one's. Some of the parents were funny too, the kids would ask for a sticker and the parents, who were Kerry supporters, would go "no, you don't want that" then the kid would look all sad and then the parents would let them have it. Without a doubt they took it off them later. :)

Today we handed out more things on the Campus Mall area. Laurie the leader of the Republican party headquarters around here had her brothers dog there. He was our walking billboard, we plastered him with stickers and he walked all around by all the people laying out in the sun studying. Although he scared me a bit because he kept peeing on everything, I thought he was gonna pee on some of the people. He wasn't just a little dog either, he was a St. Bernard, very large. But it was fun, and I was surprised at the number of people that supported Bush, we had a good turnout and signed up a number of people for the College Republicans.

So I guess the weekend was a bit more eventful that I had originally thought. But for now, I have got to get some sleep so I can get up for my 8:00 class in the AM. Have a nice summer!
