OK, so I'm going through all my shit getting packed and ready to go back to the OC for the summer. I found this page of scribbles, well, as I began to read it I realized that it was my rough draft for my statement about myself on my UW applications. hahahah oh man, I vaguely remember writing it. Here's how it goes:
I used to wonder when and why Christmas went from being the birth day of Jesus to a day full of presents, food and festivities. Why does Thanksgiving stay as just a big feast, or is the meal itself considered a gift. It seems that every other religious holiday has some sort of gift to go with the holiday. I mean, Easter went from celebrating the day that Jesus rose from the dead to a big rise in egg sales. On Halloween, which started as the day of the dead in Mexico, we now give out candy to complete strangers. If some guy dressed up as a cowboy with guns walked into a store and demanded candy, he'd get arrested, but not on Halloween. On Halloween we can dress up like fools and go up to people's houses that we don't even know and get free candy. I also don't understand other holidays like the 4th of July. Obviously it's our Independence day so then the fireworks make sense. But the thing I don't understand is why they have to make laws that keep us from having the "cool" fireworks that shoot into the air, such as bottle rockets. Is it because Wisconsinites are more likely to get injured by falling fireworks? Or is it that the issue has just never come up? Speaking of laws, why aren't verbal agreements binding. I think that death should be an appropriate punishment for breaking a verbal agreement or a handshake. But that's just one young man's opinion...
I'm glad this was just the rough draft, I seem to remember it being worded differently. An interesting discovery none the less...
Post concludes..
